Why this Democratic Party is Hiding its Post-Mortem Report on the 2024 Race: An Analysis.

The move from the Democratic National Committee to suppress the public viewing of its internal post-election analysis on the 2024 election seems remarkable yet to be expected. Averse to frank assessments, the DNC operates more like a PR firm than an electoral entity committed to cultivating local power capable of prevailing at the polls.

A Culture Resistant to Internal Critique

Hesitant to challenge the party establishment's culture of conformity, the DNC has stayed under that legacy throughout this past year. Publishing such a report could have demonstrated whether party leaders actually want to encourage public discourse regarding the strategic failures that enabled Donald Trump to win re-election. Yet, the committee is acting under the pretense that there's nothing to glean following the electoral catastrophe of 2024.

Our guiding principle: is this good for winning elections? If not, it is an unnecessary diversion from the core mission," a rationale which was presented to justify concealing the report.

Major Failures an Analysis Could Have Explored

Any valuable post-mortem with any value would confront certain uncomfortable matters. Among them are:

  • Electoral Disengagement: The loss among millions of voters who supported the Democratic ticket during the previous election was decisive in the narrowly decided recent race.
  • The Decision to Seek Re-election: The unwavering decision of the incumbent to run again, coupled with a last-minute exit, has been criticized as robbing the party's base of open primaries.
  • Failing the Working-Class Base: While facing inflation, the electoral effort is criticized for bowing to corporate donors' interests and not managing to address the effects of profit-seeking.
  • The Gaza Effect: The refusal to reconsider a policy position concerning a major international conflict allegedly caused alienating significant blocs, especially among youth voters, Arab American communities, Muslim voters.
  • Losing Youth Support: Polling data indicates a significant drop-off in support for the party from the youth electorate.

A History Avoiding Accountability

The decision to withhold fits a longstanding habit of sidestepping difficult realities. This mirrors an episode where nearly all elected Democrat in Congress went along with a sitting president's decision for running for re-election right up until a poor televised debate compelled a change.

At the same time, a significant majority of the electorate were repeatedly informing pollsters that they opposed that candidate to seek re-election.

Campaign Spending Concerns

An honest report could examine matters regarding financial allocations, such as what sums were directed to insider consultants as well as media firms over the course of an electoral effort which expended an enormous amount over a few months.

A Underlying Problem

Fundamentally, the secrecy of the official autopsy is symptomatic of a deference to party leaders who engineered an unsuccessful national race. The signal for ordinary supporters – including millions of loyal volunteers – appears to be that they do not have a right to understand what party chiefs claim to have learned from an analysis based on conversations with insiders.

A party unwilling to honestly assess its mistakes finds it difficult to break free from the cycle that ended up being so helpful to the rival party.
