Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Fighters Group

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a wide array of heroes, and a gripping narrative featuring angels, demons, and sinister influences increasing in influence within the city.

Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

The third episode ended with a major cliffhanger and presented the initial group of characters who will separate from the central cast to undertake their independent quest, distinct from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table includes Teor (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Given 13 cast members, it was evident from the start that keeping everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, weaving together the characters’ stories before splitting into three smaller tables: Fighters, Planners, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

According to the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for participants who enjoy a traditionally charged fight-heavy story mode where non-violent answers are scarce.

Initially, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might seem mismatched, but the events of episode 3 make it clear why these specific adventurers are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the party has a clear idea where to proceed after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose demise kicked off the campaign’s events—manipulated the foes for his own means, invading the secret base, attacking Thimble, and swiping all the enchanted items to dispose of.

The antagonist then cleared his debts and ran away to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, above the urban center, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each adventurer has a personal reason to depart the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and trusted friend, seeks retribution.
  • Kattigan has experience in the northern area and warns that it is a dangerous location.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to execute the target and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their status as prominent individuals in House Halovar could assist the group reach locations they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, The grateful character pledged a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his salvation and will now go with him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are wanted by the authorities that govern the city for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • The rogue and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and The cleric betrayed the influential house and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • The target is marked for death by the clan.

This means them little choice but to travel to the remote area in quest for the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

From the latest episode’s post-show segment, we discover that the warrior group will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight players to assemble the Seekers and Schemers groups.

Viewers can anticipate learning which players will be where in the story’s last Overture episode, released on next week.
